I didn't go to this game but picked up a game report off the NA soccer
mailing list. I was able to contact only one of the two authors and he
requested anonymity so I'll leave both their names off.

Na> The 1995 CNSL (Canadian National Soccer League) opened its 73rd season
Na> on Fri. May 26 at the Cove Road Field in London. The league has
Na> eliminated the two Montreal francises (Crotia and Ramblers) in order to
Na> reduce travelling costs and added the Hamilton White Eagles. Other
Na> returning teams are London City, Scarborough Astros, St. Catherines
Na> Roma, Toronto Italia and Toronto Jets. This year, competition for fans
Na> and players with the new formed CISL (based in Toronto) may be the
 Na> League's biggest challenge.

Na> The season opener, played between London City and Scarborough Astros,
Na> marked the first time in the League's 73 year history that the opening
Na> game was played outside of Toronto.

Na> [R] London City vs Scarborough Astros 1:0

Na> The match was attended by approximately 250 (very quiet) fans. London
Na> City, lead by returning 'veterans' Andrew Loague, Tonino Commisso and
Na> Shawn Taggert, played a very strong game with good solid passing plays
Na> and less air-ball than one usually associates with the "semi-pro"
Na> teams. London City's real blessing is that they were able to unload
Na> "all-star" goalkeeper, Anthony Camacho who is a member of the Antiguan
Na> Nation team, and pick up a keeper who can actually stop a ball. This
Na> young fellow, who's name escapes me at present, had a grand match.
Na> Andrew Loague scored late in the first half on a scramble play to put
Na> London ahead 1-nil. Scarborough keeper, Paulo da Silva? of the naked
Na> Adidas photo fame, also played a decent match. In the second half
Na> Scarborough Astros pressed hard for an equalizer but the London City
Na> defense stoned them. The fans finally came to life in the last 20
Na> minutes. The final result was London City 1, Scarborough Astros nil.
Na> The refereeing by FIFA ref Tony Camacho of Cambridge, was surprisingly
Na> decent although he was rather quick to whistle down alot of advantages.
Na> All in all at good start to the 1995 season and a grand evening of
Na> soccer, the availability of a few pints in the club house doesn't hurt
 Na> either.

Na> My god someone else from London, Ontario is on this list!

Na> The goalie is Craig Sinnot isn't it? That's what it said in the
Na> "report" in Saturday's Free Press anyway. He played for the original
Na> London Lasers of the CSL after their Croatian imports were offloaded
Na> to the Hamilton Steelers. Craig Sinnot is originally from Glasgow,
Na> Scotland and can often be seen drinking at the Scots Corner on Dundas
Na> Street when games are being shown by satellite. Although I'm also from
Na> Scotland originally I don't think Sinnot is that great a goalie. He
Na> wasn't City's first choice for keeper this season. They had an
Na> ex-Windsor Wheels goalie Vince Albertini lined up at one stage but he
Na> told me during a pickup game that he was only going to play if Harry
Na> Gauss agreed to pay him. Obviously he didn't. As you say though at
Na> least it won't be Anthony Camacho in goals this season.

Na> Any other CNSL spectators out there?
