CNSL game of Sunday September 7, 1997.
Here are the results of the CNSL game between Kosova Albanians and London City played at Esther Shiner Stadium in North York at 6:00pm. This was considered a Cup game. It is also the last game of the competition. Kosova can win the Cup if they win by four goals.

1st Half (Kosova defend East end in 2st half, bright sun in west, game starts 6:15pm).
The ref started the game while we fumbled around in the press box. I was asked to order the ref to stop the game so we could have a moment of silence of for Princess Diana and Mother Theresa and play the National anthem. Ok after that the game recommences from where it left off.
4 min...Kosova Vargas chips ball into box from left wing but too far for play.
5 min...Kosova Huston boots ball over net from 15 yards.
7 min...Kosova Vargas rolls ball to keeper from 15 yards.
9 min...Kosova Cara stubs shot from 15 yards which rolls right to goalie.
10 min...City Hillman can't turn header on long kick by teammate.
13 min...Kosova GOAL...Vargas header from 2 yards to left post on short side after Kosova Huston passes from right of box.
19 min...City goalie punches out corner cross.
23 min...City Gebczyski shot wide of right post from 20 yards.
25 min...Kosova Rigoult 25 yard shot saved by goalie.
26 min...Kosova Vargas from 15 yards just wide left of post.
30 min...City Gheisar turns and fires 25 yard shot straight to goalie.
34 min...Kosova GOAL...Rigoult takes 25 yard shot through leaping goalie's hands and through the webbing of the net under crossbar. The ball had no resistance from the webbing so I felt it must have gone over the bar. The ref took a long time to decide and checked the webbing himself. The City general manager who was in the pressbox at the time was clearly upset about this call. I'm not sure about the rule about not calling a goal immediately.
35 min...City YELLOW card...Williams card for protesting call.
42 min...City goalie beats through ball with diving save on Kosova Angulo centering shot into box.
44 min...through ball to Kosova Huston but goalie makes point blank save.
46 min...Kosova Carasquero steps into 35 yard shot and hits right post through crowd.
46 min...City Hylton 20 yard blast from right side knocked down by goalie.
47 min...Kosova Pisco shot stopped by goalie.
2nd Half: (starts at 7:20pm, the sun is now low and too hazy to bother the players).
49 min...Kosova Huston gets 15 yard shot saved by City goalie.
51 min...Kosova GOAL...Vargas slides in 25 yard shot into open goal after goalie comes out to kick away though ball and gets forehead of Vargas. (This was similar to Kasey Keller the US national goaltender against Mexico earlier this year).
54 min...City RED card...Williams gets his 2nd yellow card for hand ball as last man back as he stops break through from 40 yards out.
55 min...Kosova GOAL...Huston shot from 10 yards along left touch line spins over goalie and into net.
57 min...Kosova GOAL...Vargas gets easy header from 2 yards on right side of box plays short chipped cross.
62 min...Kosova goalie catches 60 yard clearing blast right on net.
64 min...Kosova Huston gets shot from 15 yards on right of box that goalie pushes out.
66 min...ball richochets off Kosova Huston right to City goalie.
68 min...Kosova Huston slides shot from 20 yards which is saved by City goalie and rebound comes right back to him, he chips to Kosova Vargas who blasts ball over net from 5 yards.
75 min...City Gebczyski shot from 25 yards just left of post.
78 min...Kosova Huston centres ball on break, Kosova Vargas hops over it and Kosova Cara can't get shot away soon enough.
79 min...City Gebczyski hard shot from 30 yards knocked down by goalie.
80 min...Kosova Carasquero breaks through but shot wide right from 15 yards.
82 min...City sub...Roney replaces Jones. The manager escorts him off as it looked like he didn't want to go!
82 min...City goalie beats through ball with sliding clearance.
85 min...City YELLOW card...Hylton for either argueing call or tackle from behind.
88 min...City goalie blocks freekick as ball curves around wall.
at last I noticed that Kosova had brought in both Chacon and Saenz as subs.
90 min...Kosova GOAL...Vargas from 5 yards as Saenz passes to him 10 yards across box while on 2 on 0 breakaway.
91min...Kosova GOAL...Carasquero blasts 10 yard shot into top center of net.
game stopped at 92 minutes.
Final Score........Kosova Albanians.......(2) 7.........London City........(0) 0......
Attendance was about 100 people. Celebrities introduced at the game included (NHL hockey player) Tie Dome's brother and the president of the Albanian community.
Kosova Albanians win the 1997 CNSL Cup competition!! They do win by more than four goals to beat out Toronto Supra. I was thinking that if Supra had played them in the League game on Friday instead of cancelling, they may have softened Kosova up or tired them out so they might not have done so well against London today.
